The “Films” title is a bit misleading. There’s no plural here. Just one film. A short film.
It’s more of a hopeful title. Something to grow into.
I’ve always been a movie nerd, but never thought I’d be someone who actually makes films. So when my friend Rıfat tried to pull me into this, it took a while. This short has been our first step. A way to learn. To get a feel for it. To get humbled. And we did all of that.
Dreaming of a Dream, the title of our short, turned into a proper crash course in filmmaking. After almost a year of work, it’s now starting its festival run. I have no idea where it’ll land or what it’ll lead to next. But I’m proud. Of our story, of how we told it. Of simply doing it.
Still not sure if I’m built for filmmaking. Or if this page will live up to its name and turn into an actual filmography. But I’ll keep taking my shot. It’s fun to take your shots.
Trailer
Set in 90s Berlin, Dreaming of a Dream follows Kerem, a 12-year-old Turkish boy on the brink of adolescence. Caught between the competitive world of boyhood friendships and his mother’s moral guidance, he impatiently waits for a special dream.
At its core, Dreaming of a Dream explores a boy’s first encounter with masculinity. That fragile turning point where innocence slowly gives way to feelings like desire, shame, and inadequacy.
As two male friends, we often find ourselves returning to this theme. This film became our way of exploring it, while dissecting fragments of our own childhood memories.
