One of the most important traits of a great people photographer is thick skin. The ability to not give a fuck whether your subject consents to being photographed, or whether they'll turn around furious after the shutter clicks. I am not that photographer. A bit too shy, a bit too timid. So I end up shooting strangers only when they're looking away.

I won't over-intellectualise my cowardice (or my strong ethical values, depending on who you ask), but there's something alluring in those concealed moments. Maybe it’s the mystery. And the curiosity that comes with it. What are they thinking? What are they feeling? I guess I’ll never know.
