DESERTS
According to the dictionary, "awe" is an emotion combining profound respect, wonder, and often
a slight sense of fear. For me, that's just a description of a desert.
The vastness, the emptiness, the grandeur. The wind-shaped mountains, the creatures that somehow survive them, the millions of years of history buried under all that nothingness. All of it makes me feel small, curious, scared, grateful, and inexplicably happy all at once.
There's quite a lot of research on awe and what it does to you. Yes, it is scientifically proven that awe increases feelings of selflessness, gratitude, and happiness. Which explains why I never seem to have enough of deserts.
